Long eye relief scope for youth

I purchased a pair of Ruger 77 / 17 cal rimfire for my grandsons, they are 11 and 12. The problem is getting them scoped as they are still a bit long, I'd like to get them scoped so they can plink around with them and can always replace the scope in several years. Any idea how I go about fitting them with the right scope?

Most Leupolds have a much more generous eye relief than any other scope.
Almost 5" when set on the lowest powers with most scopes. Compared to 3"-3.5" on most other brands.

The new Redfields are made by Leupold and have almost the same eye relief and are much cheaper. No need to replace them as they get older.

A better idea might to have the stock shortened to fit them now, then add a recoil pad to get the length back when they get older.

I'd also get the length of pull/cheek weld problems solved first, Switch out stocks, then switch back in 3-4 years. The same scope should suffice if it's good quality, as the other poster said. Plus, you'll be able to dodge most of the "learning curve" nicks and scratches. I have an 11 year old, too.;)

Look under "inventory list":

No disrespect intended to your program, there is something to be said for the kids getting good with ron sights.

That may mean an upgrade in iron sights.

Also agreed, hard to develop technique if the rifle does not fit.

Thanks for the input! I will likely look at the Redfield/ luepold scopes for the 11 yr old as he is so close to fitting the rifle and growing like crazy. Thanks for the stock suggestion, I hadn't thought of it, that will be the best option for the younger one. Thank again!

BTW HiBC I'd guess either of these boys could knock a hair off your balls at 30 yards with their open sight pellet guns, but thank you for thinking about my "program".
