my marlin has a 22 inch tube, have any of you guys ran accross 22lr rifles with tubes longer than 22" like a 24 or 26" model? if so what brand of manufacture is/was it?

My Remington 582 (tube-fed predecessor of the 541) has a 24" barrel. I think the long barrels feel much better than the short barrels that seem predominant in 22's these days.

My Winchester 69A and my Remington 550 have 24 inch tubes..............both are accurate. I do not know if it is because of the barrel length or not but both are keepers.

Suggest looking for the older bolt action .22s. Remington made several, I have my Dad's Model 41 TargetMaster with a 26 inch barrel.
As Southla1 indicated Winchester made a bunch. The Model 75 can be found with barrel lengths from 22 to 28 inches. Likewise for my favorite bolt action .22 the Winchester Model 52 in its various flavors. If you can find a good Model 52 grab it. My opinion, these are the finest .22 rifles ever built.

Springfield M1922: ~24 5/8" (a real .22 rifle! The Model 52 is the finest AFTER the M1922 ;), or at least until the Micro-motion trigger came along and it became #1)
"new" Kimber HS: 24"
Rem M541X: 27"
Kimber 82G: 25"
Ruger 77/22VBZ: 24"
Marlin 39: 24"
Remington 58x series, 541S,T, T-HB series: 24"
Remington 40X sporter 24"

24" was popular before trend to lighter weight rifles.
16" is the length needed to maximize velocity.
Target Rifles were 24+" to give longer sight radius and heavy weight.

alot of the Anschütz target rifles have a 26 or 27" barrel most are 15/16" diameter... this is mainly just to have a longer sight radius... some people even put a tube on the barrel to give them another 4 or 5 inches of sight radius..... pretty much almost everyone uses these rifles for smallbore competition and/or Olympic Shooting sports.. but if you have the $1500+ to get one they make one heck of a plinking gun :D
