I’m planning on reloading a lot of 30-30 tonight ut all I have on hand and can find is large magnum primers. Should I back off the powder at all? Using 3031

I always back off 5% with a primer change, because that is equivalent to the maximum effect I've seen documented. Having said that, the documented effect was for small rifle in the 223 Rem. Large rifle primers in larger cases seem to make less difference. My approach would be to make some loads that go from 5% less up to my old load and use the chronograph to stop where the velocity matches.

Thanks for the info. I’ll try that. It can be confusing sometimes. I’m new to reloading and I’ve asked three people and got three different answers. I think your answer sounds safe. Thank you

As always UN hit it out the park.

One other thing while you work back up, watch group sizes too. You might actually hit an accurate node sooner than expected.
