Loaded mags

I'm sure this question has been posted on the internet as one of the top five all time asked questions. The answer is.....NO. Leave them loaded for years and it won't make any difference. I can tell you for a fact that it doesn't. I have a friend who was an engineer at a company that made springs. In thousands of tests they never had a spring weaken by being flexed within its design parameters.

Generally no, but I'll add sometimes. It seems that old school magazines that didn't try to squeeze in every round possible aren't hurt at all left loaded. For example the old school 7 round 1911 magazines.

I've seen some evidence that the 8 round 1911 magazines may degrade over time if left fully loaded. Same for some other hi cap mags, especially the ones where you really have to work to get the last round in.

It may not help, but it sure doesn't hurt to load them 1 or 2 rounds less than designed for.

I agree, generally no.

I have taken old mags out of a family members gun cabinet ( 1911's )...and they were stored in the drawer of that cabinet for probably 20 yrs, loaded, before my aunt asked me to clean everything out of there...and they all ran fine. I think there were 6 mags in that drawer...and I took 2 of them apart ( no corrosion in them, it was very dry in house, very little humidity...) ..and all of them ran fine.

Another story about like BigJimP's.
I read an article a while back where a son took his fathers WWII 1911 which was still loaded with 7 rounds from 1945 out and shot all 7 rounds without a hitch. That says a lot about both the 1911, and the magazine springs.
That was not a Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat 47D magazine. That was a military contract magazine made somewhere between 1911 and 1945.
