LNL AP primer pickup tube ?

Is there any modification that can be made to make it easier to pickup the new primers to put in the primer feed tube ?

You could try a rolled-up piece of sandpaper inside the pickup end to take off a little material. I just kept using mine, and now the small primer pickup is pretty smooth and easy.

The Plastic tip is the issue. The more you use it the looser the plastic tip will get. If you modify it be very careful not to take out too much plastic or your screwed. I used a very fine small round file on mine. it helped a bit. How many primers have you loaded with it?

I've loaded several thousand primers each in my 5 pick up tubes and only the one that was the best to start with is still the best. It's a pleasure to work with, the others, well, try the sand paper that Economist suggested.

If my stiff ones have gotten better, I haven't noticed. I'm way past thinking they are going to get any better. I'm ready to start reaming them out.

Good luck and if you find something that works let me know.

I have used the small one at least 4000 times and I think it has gotten smoother over time. At least, I think it has. When I used it the other night it didn't seem difficult. The last time I used the large one it was noticeably stiffer.

to me it seems that the plastic tip is too stiff, I have to really push to get the primers to go in it. I am going to give Hornady a call and see what they say about this. On a side note my old RCBS primer pickup tubes work great, thay are from back in the 70's and have a small spring clip in them. I was using the small one and the spring clip came out so I called RCBS and the lady I spoke with is sending me a new set of large and small under warranty.

Can't say that I've ever noticed having a problem with mine. I also haven't paid that much attention to when I'm picking up the primers either, so there's that. I just load however many tubes I have (4 or 5, can't remember now it's been so long) so that I don't have to constantly stop and reload them during the loading process, set them aside and then rock and roll.

Get a Vibra-prime. Mine works quite well. I made up my own tubes for it so I could fill up one end and drop the primers out the other end to the primer tube in my LnL.

It's made by Franklin and is the second version. The first apparently had problems. Cost is around $50, compared to the Hornady version, which I think costs over $200.

Mine is stiff too and I have put over 1000 though it.
The only part that concerns me though is the last one and getting it past the plastic tip. I push them in with whatever is handy and fits. It always makes me nervous though.

Yes. Put all the pickup tubes in a safe place so you can find them if you ever sell your press.

Then buy one of those vibrating primer devices for fifty bucks and don't look back. I ordered mine when I was halfway through filling my very first Hornady pickup tube.

The Vibra-prime I mentioned comes with a tube for larger primers and one for small. These tubes are made for you to fill the tube and then dump that into the primer tube on your press, so you can only do one tube, use it, and then fill it again. I prefer to preload a dozen tubes, so I don't have to stop after 100 rounds. I bought four 3 ft tubes of the right size and cut them to hold 100 primers each. I drilled a hole across the diameter on each end so that a hairpin clip (like what comes with the primer tubes) could close the end. So fill from one end and then dump them into the press with the other end. The advantage of plastic tubes is that you can see all the primers. I had to dremel one end around the circumference so that it would fit the Vibra-prime tightly.

The Hornady primer tubes are a little "stiff" when loading primers but, work well. Dillon primer tubes work MUCH easier and work well the the Hornady primer systems. I just bought a dozen Dillon tubes to use with my PAL primer tube feeder. Works like a Champ!!:)

Mine haven't loosened up yet and I doubt they will. I am going to try the small round file and shave them a bit.

Get a vibraprime and throw the pickup tubes in the drawer. Why have a progressive press and use manual pickup tubes ? With the vibraprime, dump the primers in the tray, shake to flip them, put the lid on and pull the trigger to fill the tube, I can fill a tube with 100 primers in about a minute.

Friend had a vibraprime and his was junk. Lots of mixed reviews about them. Average is about 3.5 stars
