Lizard Litter

Just wondering if anyone out there uses an additive (besides water) with Lizard liter to minimize the dust?

I have been using Lizard litter as a tumbling agent for a the last year or two. When its fresh out of the package it has some moisture content to it and works great for a few months. Over time it gets very dusty and used dryer sheets don't cut it.

Thanks

Yes, and as others will add, a liquid car polish called Nu-Finish Auto Polish is a popular addition for more pronounced case polishing. For removing dust, perhaps with the auto polish the cut up strips of Fabric Softener dryer sheets may be more effective; perhaps not needed to add every time but as necessary. Note that when using the auto polish, add several cap fulls with the tumbler running but do not add brass until the auto polish clumps have broken up. Best accomplished by breaking up the clumps with a hand inserted into the tumbling media. Unbroken clumps included with cases while tumbling will find their way into the case mouths and the mixture is annoying to remove.

The polish just by itself should control most of the dust problem without the dryer sheets.

With the different media I use I use a screen, like to ones used on a window the screen is stretched with a slight give sag in center use a rag and roll it around loose dust falls right through and only larger media remains... ymmv

From personal experience, additives are not necessary. Throw a used dryer sheet into your cleaning drum and run your brass for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours. They should come out looking new and a bit slippery. I attribute that to the dryer sheet but can't be certain.

Good luck.

I use a splash of mineral spirits (probably less than a tablespoon).

My Lyman 1200 sets on the garage floor when it's running and I just sweep up the dust and spillage when I'm done or once a year or so...

Ratio:
2/3 Corn Cob media from the lizard department;
1/3 Walnut (ground) from the lizard department;

Also include in each batch:
1 tsp. (or less) Flitz Metal Plastic Fiberglass Polish from your favorite big box store.

Depending on how much you polish, a single mixture of (corn cob/walnut) media will last months, or over a year before needed to be changed.

I used 50/50 Lizard Litter and corn cob. Also add New Finish car polish and a few 2"x2" pieces of used dryer sheets. The dryer sheets collect a lot of the dust.

For the price of lizard-litter, once it starts to get dusty, I throw it and start over. I do use Nu-Finish with it tho as it speeds up the process and leaves a residue that prevents oxidation. I also do the dryer sheet trick. Once you see an excessive amount of dust it means the media itself has broken down. This means the corners are rounded and the effectiveness of it is greatly reduced. Change it.

Paper towels or Kleenex work the same as dryer sheets.
Flitz makes polish specifically for adding to media too

No additives here. Just the used dryer sheets. And cases come out as good as I want them to be. My tumbler is the Ultra-Vib and dust is sealed in. So no big deal while tumbling. Don't worry about it when digging out the case.

I am new to reloading I am using blue buffalo crushed walnut kitty litter and "the bar keepers friend" it seems to work well. It gives the brass a satin look. I also have a cover on my tumbler so I dont worry about dust to much. I will have to try the dryer sheets next time.
