Is there any Live TFL chats??? Like IRC or the likes??? I think it would be a great idea to have a live chat.

Just wondering since I registered #TheFiringLine on DALnet's IRCnetwork.

I've got irc. not gonna use msn or any others. I have ICQ and Irc...IO think it's enuogh for my teeny memory computer. :)

post when you wanna go on...try for a few hours beforehand so others can read the post and log in.

I think ICQ would be the best option.

However, I am a IRC troll, so it could work but lets try it with ICQ!

I'm game, this many egos and all of us packin heat? whooooeeeeee that ought to be fun. just tell me when and I'll be there. maybe a nightly thing or a weekly schedule. by the way Yahoo already has a firearms policy chatroom it's kinda neat.

Nice, I also have ICQ.... If you want to use IRC, register a nick and Email me the nick you registered, I will add you as an OP. :)

Would be nice if we could get some of the Mod's, Admin's from this board to comment on this.

ICQ is good, so is AIM. I use both but I could have sworn that only so many users are allowed in the ICQ IRC chat? I also thought that someone from TFL here had a chat room for chats on Saturday mornings?

I like AIM. ICQ isn't as user friendly, and takes longer to download and figure out. I'm down for some live chats though. I think that's be fun, but if we actually did synchronize a chat time, we'd have to establish seperate rooms, for seperate topics. You get 5,000+ people in a chat room, and it will be chaos:-)

"register a nick and Email me the nick you registered . . . "

May I strongly recommend that for the sake of continuity, nicknames in the chatroom be the same ones we've registered here on TFL. Yeah, I'd like to change mine, but I've gotten to 'know' ya'll with your chosen nickname. Switching screen names would make me feel like I was in a room of total strangers instead of previous acquaintances.

Do as you wish. Enjoy.

But be prepared to see your content drop, if you find yourself attempting to discuss firearms issues in irc, icq, or whatever is the fave chat format, these days.

When I consider the best posts that I've read on TFL, I know that many of them took the author over an hour to type them. Thoughtful discourse is not encouraged in Chat formats. The nature of the beast is at best, quick, "witty" one-liners. (Perhaps my disdain stems from my lack of wit. Probably.) But at its worst, trolling erupts out of boredom. For all that, chat participants tend to be hooked like crack addicts. Never understood why, but I've seen it.

FWIW,
L.P.

Long Path,
I respectfully disagree with you. The real world is dynamic, not quiesent. If the real world followed the scripted post, in a matter of weeks, we'd all be toast.

Well, RAE, I guess I'm just a slower thinker. (It *has* been suggested. ;) )

But anyone who has ever thought, "I wish I'd said," or "What I meant to say was," must agree that the written word gives the author a chance to ponder the possible inferences of his writing and to verify and document his sources.

Rather obviously, I'm one of those slow writers Long Path mentioned. ;)

(And dang it! I *STILL* can't guarantee I'll get it right the first time! :D )

:( The saddest part of this thread is that HS from OZ. one of TFL's founding members, is the one that used to have a Saturday morning chat. (The one referred to above). HS has been MIA in here for a few months, and we can only hope he has gone walk-about. I miss that Aussie. One of the "quickest wits" I've ever had the pleasure of conversing with. HS's strong point was certainly real time, as any visitors to his chat can attest, and not via a post. Shows how transient life on a forum can be, eh?

Dennis,
Nothing wrong with going with your strong points. I wouldn't call you slow by any means. Deliberate and insightful, yes. Slow, never. FWIW, from 99% of your posts, you do fine the first time. I'm by no means critical of a well thought out, and well prosed post. I don't discount brevity either. I try to learn from both. ;)

Sounds like ICQ would be the way to go. I'd like to join y'all once in a while (like now with L&P down), My # is 92446575, Nick is TheBluesMan (Go figger!)

Dead - I would email you, if you listed your addy... ;)
