Little Help?

I went into a "Dicks Sporting Goods" the other day for some Christmas gifts and tried to buy some .380 ACP for my Father's backup. I was told that I'd have to have my pistol permit to buy any, because they were only used in pistols.
I'm located in New York, so any thing could be possible here! Is this a fact?

Don't know NY laws, but you can try to buy him a gift certificate instead.

IIRC, having read the NY gun laws in detail, that is a legal requirement: handgun ammo can only be sold to handgun owners. It's handled by keeping all handgun ammo behind the counter, and requiring CCW display to handle.
