Just Curious

Could someone fill me in on some of the "Legalities" of owning a shotgun for self defense. I know that the barrell can be no shorter than 18" but other than that, I don't know.

Is it legal to have a pistol grip that you yourself make by sawing the stock?

Shotgun:

Barrel must be at least 18" in length and the overall gun must be 26" in length.

If you're talking of a mossy or a 870 with a 18.5" barrel and a pistol grip, no probs, go for it (but check your state laws).

Mete and I posted at the same time :D. And he is correct.

If you buy a virgin receiver, get the SOT lisense(sp) from ATFE, you are allowed to build your own SSG or SSR (Short barreled shotgun, Short barreled rifles) from the ground up and you just register the serial that came with the receiver.

Fed law is strange, to say the least. You pay, you play, seems to be the way it works.
