little black bags

Just got back from the Keys tonight, noticed something of interest down in Florida. Seems about every tourist had a fanny pack on in different shapes and sizes, most in a non descript color, oh say black. None that I saw were of the size for a good size firearm, but nontheless just an interesting note. I felt that no one even cared about the pack if they saw it. First time carrying in that kind of heat, now I feel for the folks who carry in that environment. Anyone have any suggestions for carrying while on a fishing trip? I experienced fishing on the flats and the reef, just curious on how to carry on a boat.

Fanny packs, fagbags, buttsacs, whatever you call'em, work just fine.

Back my glock days, I carried a G19 in a little buttbag. I had to do some modifications to the bag to keep the sights
from hanging up, and the draw took a *lot*
of practice.

With my wallet and keys in the outter pocket to conceal the outline of the weapon, I was able to carry it anywhere, pretty much openly.

While the draw was slower than a service holster, it was faster than a lot of concealment rigs and a *lot* more comfortable.

The wife and I both got a Galco hip pouch. The pouches are black, maybe we should have chosen the colorful ones. Anyway, the pouches are light and comfortable with a inner holster that holds your pistol with a velcro strap. Good for summer carry. All nylon. Galco makes a larger size for larger pistols, but the small size easily contains my Glock 27 and her Taurus 85.

Mendacity is the system we live in.

The Galco Escort packs are one of the best. My only complaint is that they are designed for horizontal carry of the gun, which makes them a bit more awkward than some of the ones with the inner adjustable holsters. The model for the J-frames positions it in a diagonal, crossdraw fashion which is much faster. It also works well with the Khars, and it should "fit" most any other similar sized auto likewise.
If you like their product, and see it in any other color than black, get it while you can. Current models are ONLY available in black. :(

That's an advantage in living in an area frequented by touristas, the butt bag/fanny pack is everywhere. I occasionally use one for the carry of a Kahr K9, and no one gives me a second glance. I still prefer to carry IWB and do so at least 85% of the time I'm armed. But the carry bags do have a place.. Mark / FL

I like em too but you have to bear in mind that with a little practice you can spot the run-of-the-mill types from the CCW specials. I'm sure this has not escaped the notice of criminals.

fed168,

Congrats on your Keys trip - one of my favorite places to go play. Hope you have some good fish stories. ;)

The fagbags are everywhere here in CO.

I've bought a couple different types of off-the-shelf reg ol' fagbags & modified them for concealed use. Amazing what a little velcro, stiches & time will allow you to do.

Besides, I didn't want a "discrete" carry package that says "gun inside!" ;)
