little advice wanted

ok im stuck on which gun to get. its between the rossi 45-70 30-30 45lc 44m all in the lever action. have never owned any of these rounds other then the lonc colt but that was only becuase my raging bull 454 could also shoot that. this gun will be used for some target shooting and maybe deer or coyote hunting. only guns i own now are 12gauge pump, 410 break over, and my dads [rip] stevens 87a. all my other guns have either been sold or stolen and starting to build up my collection again.

Every year around Deer season (at least in my area) Dick's sporting goods has a sale on Marlin 30-30's for under $400. But if you still want the Rossi or are looking at caliber first, the 44 mag might suit your needs a little better. If you planned on doing a little more deer hunting than target I would lean toward the 45-70 or 30-30.
 
I could maybe offer a little bit better educated opinion if I knew what kind of area ya got to shoot in. But since you mentioned hunting yotes, I'm guessing you have some pretty good open areas.

With that, I gotta pitch my vote to the .30-30. You can get out there a little farther and if you're buying off the shelf ammo- you can get 125gr varmint loads. Now, I don't know if they're called varmint loads because they have thin jackets that disrupt rapidly, or just because they ain't 150 grain pills.
 
+1 on the .30-30. Much more versatile caliber than a pistol round and a flatter trajectory than the .45-70 (I've had both).

Have you considered looking for a used rifle? Typically they are 1/2 to 2/3 the price of a new gun. I bought a '72 vintage Winchester M94 last year for $300 with four boxes of factory ammo. Maybe not the best deal ever, but at $20 a box, I figure that the rifle was about $220.

Here in a local gun store they have a '52 vintage Winchester M70 featherweight in .257 Roberts for $500 with three boxes of factory ammo. Before every body gets excited, it no longer has the original barrel or stock. It shows a lot of character from being hunted with a lot, but the bore looks very good. If I wasn't dead broke right now I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
 
I own both 30-30 and 44MAG rifles. They do the same approximate damage out to about 80 yards or so. Beyond this distance the 30-30's larger case capacity gives it a much flatter trajectory.

If you have a .454 the .45 Colt makes the most sense. From "Cowboy" to "Kill Anything on Earth" power levels and you could hunt or go to the range with the same ammunition. The .45 Colt is a beautiful thing.
 
If you are going to use the rifle for more target shooting then deer or coyote shooting the 44 mag will serve you best.

If you are going to do more deer and coyote shooting especially at extended distances I would go with the 30-30.

Get the 30-30 if your planing to shoot longer ranges (+50yards), if its only for shooting less then 50yards get the 45lc. What ever you do dont get the 45-70, its a pain to shoot and im not that sensitive.
