Someone posted on the recent "Ankle Carry" thread, that they didn't think anything less than 9mm would be prudent to carry in an ankle holster, due to the lint and dust/dirt that gets into the gun - the higher caliber ensuring that the gun fully cycles, going completely into battery.
Well, I had not thought of this, but do notice that my KelTec P32, carried in a front pocket holster, does indeed build up a lot of grime, and if you push back the slide just a tad, about 1/8th of an inch, it stays back if quite dirty. Now I don't know without firing it whether this means it would not go into battery upon a full cycle after firing, but it worries me a little. I notice that the "double spring" system of the P32, with one inside the other, is interesting, but still quite weak.
So, what say you - What to do? Leave as is? Get a stronger spring setup for the P32? Does anyone make such springs, like Wolff? Just clean the lint out of the thing every week (a bit of a pain)? Opt for a higher caliber? (that's a problem, because nothing conceals as well as the P32 for front pocket carry). I'm thinking stronger springs perhaps, and replace that silly plastic guide rod with an aluminum one while I'm at it, if anyone makes them. Thanks.
