i have a charles daly 1911-a1 with about 2000 rounds thru it. awhile back i noticed that there was some deformation in the frame where the barrel lugs rest. i sent it to the distributor and there smith filed a bit off the bottom of the barrel lugs (feet?). i reblued the dinged spots and shot it. after about 200 rounds the spots are appearing again. the barrel link and pin seem a bit loose so i baught a new pin and link. i cannot get the old pin to come out. any tips, comments or suggestions?
thanks

A strong punch and a big hammer! Seriously. It's probably staked in. A couple good whacks with a punch and hammer and it'll come out.

Dear Shooter:
Yes, your pin will come out! But, "back-up the lugs!"
The job of the link is not to "link-up" the bbl. into battery - the botton lugs do that above the slide stop pin if fitted properly! They may assist, but not function as a battery set.The fundamental job of the link is to pull the bbl. down out of battery at the proper time! When the slide is in recoil the lower lug feet are supposed to go against the inner stop on the frame - if the lug is too short it will in time snap the link, or brinnel the slide stop hole.
You may have a "soft" frame, or, using too hot of a load.
Good shooting Harry B.
