Limited data on Longshot for my .40 sw.

Hey guys, I am primarily a rifle Reloader but am starting on .40 sw. I bought some Longshot and the data seems very slim. When buying cheaper bullets it’s just not there. So my biggest question is if the data is there for a Berger 155 gr. And I have another 155 gr. Bullet would I just start at the min for 155s? Longshot from the data seems to be a safe powder and I do have one Glock I’ll be using. Just plinking rounds and learning the cartridge. Thanks.....

Yes, use data for a similar bullet, at starting load, and work-up. It is important to locate data for the same weight and TYPE (jacketed, cast or plated).
Glock says not to shoot cast bullets in Glocks, because the polygon bore was not designed for that. For that matter, they say don't shot reloads. It voids your warranty. But, people do, myself included. Some people buy barrels with rifling Lone Wolf and others make them. LW also makes OEM polygon bores now, too. You can also change SOME calibers with a barrel swap. Mags and extractor may need to be changed too, sometimes. I used a LW 9mm barrel in my G23, and no other changes. Glockmeister.com has a table of what works in what.
Longshot is a safe, slow burning, pistol powder that will allow you to load for highest velocities. I bought some but have not used it yet. Power Pistol, BE86, and Bullseye (slowiest to fastest) are also suotable for 40SW, as are many others.

Longshot is a great powder for 40 s&w. I use it regularly with Xtreme plated bullets. When I am concerned about loads, I call the powder maker first and sometimes the bullet maker to help me find a load. You would be amazed at the helpfulness of their advice.

Longshot is my 'go to' powder for top end .40 loads. Hodgdon data used to list a 155 gr. bullet over Longshot, @1325 fps. Never tried to reach that, but with once fired brass, same brand of brass, my standard 'carry' load runs at 1275 fps. Somewhere around 9.2 grains, plus or minus, depending on brass and bullet used, will do it. It is a stopper.

Hi,

LONGSHOT is a great choice for the 40 caliber and there is a great deal of data available from Hodgdon's website: http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol

If you are starting with Plated bullets, the load data at Hodgdon is listed for Berry's bullets and they have data for Jacketed as well with the XTP.

The Berry's data can be used with other brands of plated bullets like Extreme or Rainier interchangeably as can the Jacketed be used with other Jacketed bullets.

Have Fun!

I would not consider Longshot a good powder to use for plinking as it seems to perform best at max or near max loads. I would recommend a faster burning powder for light loads, such as WST or Tightgroup.
