I believe the caller said it was a Bureau of Justice study. I can't find it. Does anyone know about this. The caller also mentioned they rape 14/day.

Crime control - what a concept huh??

Anyway, it would be nice to back up these numbers.

Thanks for any help.

I listened to the same part of the show and at one point the caller mentioned that he got the stats off of the NRA-ILA web page. I'm going to go to that and search around a bit.

To own firearms is to affirm that freedom and liberty are not gifts from the state.

The caller said that he got the info from LEAA's publication "The Shield," and then in the next breath mentioned NRA-ILA. But he also said they originally came from the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Spent some time there, and the only thing I could come up with off the cuff was here:

Methinks someone put considerable more effort into researching this than I'm willing to do...

Believe I found it. Don't know if Rand Corp is responsible for all figures or not:

Imprisoned criminals serve only one third of their sentences, on average: for murder, 7.7 years; rape, 4.6 years; robbery 3.3 years; and aggravated assault, 1.9 years. Every day in America there are 14 murders, 48 rapes and 578 robberies by convicted criminals on parole or early release from prison. The average career criminal commits more than 180 crimes a year (Rand Corp.), contributing significantly to the nearly 13.5 million violent and property crimes in 1998. (FBI) The answer to this problem is expanded prison capacity and truth-in-sentencing laws which require violent offenders to serve at least 85% of their sentences.
