Lightweight .223

I'm looking for 223 that weights 6 1/2lbs or less. I live in a communist state so it must be bolt action. A few I've seen online are:

1) Kimber Montana, 5lb 6oz
2) Browning X-Bolt Composite Stalker, 6lb 3oz
3) Mossberg MVP Flex, 6lbs 8oz
4) CZ 527, 6lbs 6oz
5) Tikka T3 6lbs 5oz

Which of these would you prefer and can you recommend any others?

I have a Tikka and really like it.
Has a fantastic trigger that's easily adjustable down to 2lbs and is very very good.
Has a nice smooth action and is really accurate for the pencil thin barrel. Shoots Hornady training ammo into .5moa. Tikkas have a great reputation and are incredibly well priced for what you get.

That said, CZ centerfire rifles are very nice too, I would own one.
Haven't tried any of the other rifles, but going off the brands the Kimber would be my pick as they are generally very nice.

I have a T3 and a 527. Very hard to pick one over the other, but for short, light, and easily carried in the field, I'd have to go with the CZ. And the trigger is fully adjustable for pull weight, take up, and over travel. And the "set" feature is awesome!

another

Here's mention of another option.

You might like one of the "Mini-Mausers", or Mini Mark X, made by YZ and marketed by several importers over the years, including Remington, who sold them as "798's" (I think).

Check out the Zastavia web site and you should gain more info on the rifles.
They are tidy little bolt rifles, all steel and hardwood (I hesitate to say walnut, though mine is). I have not priced a used one, but the rifles have been around for many years and used models should be available.

Not really a "Mauser" action, but appealing. Mine (most?) have an adjustable trigger. There is some metal work that rifle guys like, like an all steel floor plate and a flattened and checkered bolt knob (on mine). The actions can be a bit notchy, but smooth some with use. Mine shoots about 1.25 MOA +/- maybe a tad better with the right ammo and recent free float of barrel. The 20" slender barrel make the little rifles very portable, but not so good shooting groups. Not sure what the barrel twist is nowadays, but mine is 1-12, which works for mid range slugs, but not so good for the heavy weight long rangers, but these are not long range rifles.

If you want a classic option to the hi-cap MVP and the poly stock Ruger, take a look at the Mini-Mausers.

Marlin X7 with the synthetic stock?

Dirt cheap, and you can have the barrel turned down by a gunsmith (to lose the unnecessary weight) for under $100.

Barrel quality is exactly the same as a Remington 700.

I am a big fan of CZ rifles.

...so it must be bolt action

Since you mention this, is it true that you had contemplated something in semi-auto?

In your state could you build an AR without the gas system?

Ruger American Ranch 6.5 lbs or less or Predator at 6.6 lbs. Nice thing about the Ruger is they have an 8" twist so they let you use a lot more bullets than the others except if you find an 8" twist Tikka.

Maybe if you could give us more info, price range, blue or stainless, etc.we could help you even more. Good Luck :D

I work at a large sporting goods/outfitters store and from what I'am getting from customers the Tikka T3 Lite would be your best choice. Some of the groups my customers have shot are outstanding sub 1/2" MOA on a regular basis.
