has anyone shot the lightfield commander 3 1/2'' 12 gauge slugs and if so how did they perform for you and how lethal are they

I haven't shot them, but I did try two 3.5" slugs out of my H&R turkey gun a couple of years ago. It was not a pleasant experience. Over the years, I have shot 5 deer with 2 3/4" Brenneke slugs and not one of them has gone more than 10 yards after being hit.
What are you hunting that you want a 3.5" slug?

IIRC, Lightfield's 3.5" Commander slugs generate 48 Ft/lbs of recoil.
Brenneke KO's kill the deer just as good with about half the recoil of those Lightfield's, (again, IIRC*).
Also, you get the dual advantage of paying much less for the Brenneke KO's and not brutalizing your shoulder.
Now, if your into experiencing recoil, you picked the top of the heap for punishing 12 ga. slug recoil. I think the other closest contenders for greatest recoil were Remington's 3" Buckhammer, Brenneke's 3" Black Magic and 3" Gold Magnum slugs.

*A crushing computer crash took my master table of shotgun slugs that had recoil energy as one of the listed items along with the other pertinent info. Sooo, I'm trying to pull this info up from my middle aged memory.

I've only shot the 2¾" and 3" versions...Very accurate and hard hitting on the target...

Recoil is always heavier in slug or buckshot loads (unless specific for HD/LEO use) as the intended target is usually larger and heavier then a 6 oz woodcock...It's because of the extra powder...
I½ oz over 4 drams will recoil the same regardless if it is buck or bird shot or a slug...regardless of manufacturer and material of the shot...basic laws of physics apply...How they perform after leaving the barrel is another matter all together...

I have hunted exclusively with a slug gun for over 20 yrs, and have never felt a need. The extra recoil, unless your a seasoned slug shooter, will have an advervse effect on accuracy due to flinching. In May I folded up a bull kudu with 2 3/4" Remington Accutips. It was more than enough, Remember power is good, but accuracy is fatal. I am going to use them on a future elk hunt, and will stay with 2 3/4. Look at the ballistics of your slug, and try as many different brands as possible you would be supprised what your gun will like and not like.

That .44 Mag doesn't generate "overkill" in my mind, although it can be a very effective cartridge given some limitations. A 3.5" slug round is going to generate sum serious kick. Make sure your shotgun is properly zeroed. That means you are going to shoot several downrange at paper. I wish I could be there to as a spotter. I suspect you might change your mind. Might consider bringing sum 2 3/4 rounds just in case.

actually a .44 mag was desiged after the 44-40 and is used as a back up weapon for several guides hunting everything from hogs to grizzly. never seen anything take another step from it EVER. its more potent than you think

Are we talking about the same .44 Mag? Could you be referring to the .444 Marlin?
I want to make a couple of clarifications for my post #4 since I found my shotgun slug info.
The Lightfield Commander generates 50.0 ft/lbs of free recoil. It's velocity is listed at 2000 FPS and it's muzzle energy is 3643 ft/lbs(!) WOW!
Although it was irrelevant to the OP's needs, the Brenneke K.O. generates 23.7 ft/lbs of free recoil.
