For those of you not familiar with it, "Lifetime" is a cable channel specializing in, as they say, "Television for Women." It does a lot of original and rebroadcast movies that fall into one of two distinct types. The first is the forensic detective story -- how the police solved a murder or other violent crime. These movies are usually pretty interesting and my wife and I enjoy them.
The second of the two types, however, is what I've come to call the "Women in Trouble" movie. These are leftist tracts of the worst sort, and usually involve a young, beautiful, talented, loving, independent professional woman who is nonetheless inexplicably locked into a relationship with a loutish, violent, alcoholic, drug-abusing Neanderthal of a man who as often as not collects guns, belongs to the NRA, is in the (ugh!) military, or in some other way demonstrates that he's "crazy and dangerous."
Last night my wife and I were watching one of the latter type of movies on "Lifetime." This one involved a loutish philanderer who was cheating on his wife with his wife's best friend. I won't burden you with the story line. The point I want to make is that several times the movie was interrupted by an ad from Planned Parenthood, in which a beautiful, poised actress informed the audience that Gov. George Bush is rabidly anti-abortion and anti-woman, and who, if elected (the actress suggested), would soon cause the streets and highways of America to be littered with the bodies of women who had been killed in back-room abortions.
Now, anyone has the right to make whatever claims they want about a political candidate. But I feel these ads are simply lies and thus over the line.
If, on the odd chance you agree, you may wish to express how you feel to Lifetime and Planned Parenthood. Your decision, of course.
