Licensing, just like with cars

quote:
Instead, the report said: "A better solution may be found in vehicle sanctions or modifications that physically impede unlawful driving through vehicle impoundment, electronic driver's licenses or alcohol ignition interlocks ... which require the driver to provide a breath sample every time the individual attempts to start the automobile." Ahhh. Smart cars. Yeah, that'll work. Like the fellow a while back that had his kid blow in onboard breathalizer so he could start the vehicle...

How 'bout an integral machine in a smart car that before starting requires you to hook up electrodes to your head to see if your IQ is over 70. No, that wouldn't be fair - all the antis would have to ride bicycles.

"One of every five fatal car crashes in the United States involves a driver who is not properly licensed..."

You know what this means, don't you? Four of every five fatal car crashes in the United States involve drivers who are properly licensed.

Sounds to me like you're four times more likely to be killed by a properly licensed driver than by an unlicensed one.

Just call me Dr. Kellerman.

Just the other day I was thinkin' (I get dangerous when I think). Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to register and licence gun owners just like we do cars and drivers. Since all persons who drive must be licenced, surely no one out there would dare drive a car without one, it would be illegal. Since the car is registered, surely no one would steal one, they would then be driving a car not registered to them and that would be illegal. Now then, it would take a real bozo to steal a car and drive it without a licence, that would be breaking two laws at once and they would risk going to jail for a long, long time. So, you see, if we registered all the guns and licenced all the legal gun owners the crime rate would surely fall because criminals aren't stupid, they wouldn't want to get caught holding up a convience store with an unregistered gun and no licence to have a gun 'cause hey, it would be illegal!

Funny thing about so called "smart cars" and "smart guns". It's easy, but not cost effective, to overhaul the car (and or gun) to act and run just like it's 1960's counterpart. Case in point: I own a 1992 Firebird, the last of that body style. Only problem is, it's completely computer controlled. Well, it was a problem, no longer. My computer kept on going out, and wouldn't allow the car to start. So, frustrated (and drinking), I pulled the ^%$(&%(& thing out. I rebuilt the engine, removing all the computer crap. The fuel injection system was the hardest but I got it going without computer support (and it sounds DAMN good). This actually boosted the HP from 285 to over 320. It's only a 305 so this shows how much the computer takes away from it's power. I had to modify the computer to ensure the dash lights and instruments work, but I live near a computer place that took this on as a project for sh!ts and grins. My gauges are working fine. Sure, I lost the key system (there's a chip or something on the ignition key that activates an anti-theft system if the wrong key (or a wet key) is used) but I have a good alarm on the car. As for this breath test machine, it's "optional" equipment put on by the local LEO's (or their mechanic) and can be bypassed. The same is true about so called "smart guns". It can be bypassed. You have the frame, the reciever, the grip, the springs and levels. The "safety" chip can be removed and if need be, the part it activates, the safety, can be remade. As for car registration and license's.. it's just another way to tax the people. They didn't have registration or licenses for people in a horse and buggy, this is just something some politician came up with to get more money. They say it's for "road repair" and "improvements" but I've been on roads that are just a hair short of being gravel or dirt but is a major roadway. Also, you've got to admit that they do road repair at the worst times, usually when there is heavy traffic or summer vacation. You're paying for this and still you sit in traffic, on a really hot day, wasting expensive gas, while they use your money to repair a road or highway. You're also paying for those tickets you get for going a mile over the speed limit. Think about it, you have to pay to register your vehicle with the state, you have to pay for your license; alot of that money goes for speed limit signs. So, when you get a ticket for speeding (or turning or making a U-turn) you are paying twice.. once for the sign you payed to put up and the other for not seeing or obeying it. One of the arguments that I've heard with licensing guns like cars is due to every state recognizes this license. Well, according to what I've read, every state is supposed to recognize CHL (CCW, etc) licenses as well. The same is with registered cars, if I travel from Idaho to NYC, they have to let me pass (drive) because I have a valid license. But this is not what the Anti's want. They want licenses but they don't want other states to recognize each license. Which is illegal from what I've read. This doesn't and won't stop the maddness. Driving without a valid license is a misdeamor in most states, carring a concealed firearm is a felony in some states. Not paying your "taxes" on your car is a misdeamor in most states, the ticket will be dismissed if you get before court date, but carring a firearm for protection can land you in jail, with no dismissal if you do get a CHL before your court date. This is just another ploy by the anti's to make non-informed gun owners think: This is a great idea, if I go for this, then I can carry anywhere, in any state, without harm. Don't be stupid, don't cave in to this insanity.

The registration and license fees are for road maintainence (and supporting the bureacracy)? Then why are we told that the gasoline taxes are for this?

Somebody's trying to fool me...
