Leverguns: Just love 'em!

I have one lever rifle right now. A Winchester 94 angle eject trapper, 16" barrel, .357 Magnum. I'll be parting with it soon. It's used, so I can't get much for it if I sold it, so I'm giving, yes, giving it to a friend of mine. She's really interested in shooting, and .357 Magnum is pretty docile in a rifle, but is potent enough for defense. I'll be teaching her how to use it properly, obviously, before I hand it over, and have already explained to her the saftey rules and such. (Yes, the transaction is legal and on the up-and-up.)

Anyway, before too long, I'll be buying a Marlin 336W from Wal-Mart. IMHO, it's $267 well spent. But it doesn't end there! I also want a Marlin 1895 in .45-70. They have a .444 at a local shop, but I'd really rather have the .45-70, with it's slightly bigger bore more variety in loadings. I don't hunt or reload, btw, and some may say that .45-70 is a bit much for just shooting fun, but I think 12-ga shotguns are fun to shoot, too. :D

I also want another Winchester 94 Trapper. This time, I want it in .45 Colt. I prefer the Marlins due to their non-springloaded triggers (if you've fired a new manufacture Winchester 94, you know what I'm talking about. The slack in the trigger just BUGs me a little) but they don't make a 16" carbine in .45 Colt, at least, they don't have one in their most recent catalog.

These three leverguns will probably satisfy me, though, I admit, there's a nearly $800 Uberti replica of an 1873 Winchester 19" barreled carbine that I just like...hehe...

I'm certain I'm not the only one here who's a big fan of leverguns! I just wish they'd start making the Winchester 95 again, and chamber it in .303 British. :)

LeverGuns Rule!

Nightcrawler, I've had a Winchester 94 .357 on order from my local shop for two months now! Every time I go in, "Is it here yet?", No...not yet. I can't wait.

You're a lucky fellow, and your friend's even luckier!

Happy shooting!

I never owned a lever rifle until I got into cowboy action shooting and now I have two- a marlin 1894CB in 45 colt and a marlin 1895 limited IV in 45-70. They are a lot of fun to shoot even the 45-70. I will say that about 20 to 30 rounds of 45-70 is about all the fun I want at one time. I know a gunsmith near Atlanta that shortens the barrels of marlins for cowboy shooters. It would be expensive but if you REALLY wanted a short barrel marlin he could do it. Winchesters may have won the west but if they had more marlins they could have done a lot faster!

The gunsmiths name is Neal Spruill 770-503-7572

By the way if you haven't yet you should find a cowboy shoot in your area and check it out. It is a lot of fun especially if you like the guns they are shooting.

I just bought one of those Wal-mart 336Ws as my first rifle. It's a very nice long gun and I'm looking forward to becoming reasonably adept with it. .30-30, to me, after a lot of reflection, seemed like the right place to start because of this caliber and action's versatility and all-around utility. I find the recoil manageable (handguns and 12-gauge are my comparisons) and the accuracy no doubt well in excess of my own. I thought about a .44 Magnum lever-action but decided a true rifle caliber made more sense for me, especially at value pricing.

I absolutely LOVE my 16" barrelled Marlin 1894P/.44mag! Great accuacy with 240gr. bullets...average with 180/200gr. Mine loves Federal 240gr.JHP.

Bein' a lefty, I love 'em. Got a used Win Ranger in excellent shape for $175 bucks. Reasonably powerful, reliable, lightweight, inexpensive as rifles go, and just plain handy to have around. I'll never be without one. Best Regards, J. Parker

These three leverguns will probably satisfy me,

hehe, I doubt it. :D
Lever actions are an addiction. My overall favorite is my wife's Winchester 9422 Trapper. I prefer the Winchester over the Marlin for extended shooting sessions. The shape of the Marlin lever catches the backside of my hand just wrong and hurts after a couple hundred rounds. YMMV here.

Yep, I love lever guns. I prefer the Winchester designs myself and currewntly own 5, but I'm always looking for more. ;)

I took the scope off of my Win94 last night. I'm trying to get more into the spirit of the light carbine. That and I get too much distracting wobble offhand using a 4x scope and that light barrel. Back to the irons!
Anybody got tips on smoothing up or tuning leverguns??
