Levergun Hunters

Who out here loves nothing more than toting your favorite leaver action rifle on a hunt?
Wheater it is my Henry Goldenboy varmint hunting, or my Marlin 1894 357 Mag on a goat hunt, funny story behind that. . . . . .
Shooting is never as good as when the gun in my hands has a smooth lever action.
Let me hear your lever hunt stories. . . . .

PS I am considering a 444 Marlin 1894, anyone hunt with this round?

My Marlin 39D is my favorite squirrel shooter by a long margin. My Marlin 1894C .357 Magnum would do me well for anything up to whitetails. The common thing is that I just love leverguns. I've had bolts and semi-autos (never tried a pump), but I always come back to the levers. The fact that they've been in production for 100+ years means that there are quite a few people like me who feel the same way. To me, a .30-30, .32, .35, .357, .44, .444, .45-70 (take your pick) levergun is synonymous with "deer rifle."

I love hunting rabbits and squirrels with my Savage 489 single shot .22 lever. Used to hunt whitetails with a .30-30 Winchester 94 but have gone to a .270 bolt for them now.

My first buck was with a Marlin 30-30. I still have the rifle and will be keeping it until it gets passed along to my daughter upon my demise.

I have taken a few hogs with it and a couple of does.

My wife uses it for home security while I am at work. She is a good shot with it.

I have a love for all my rifles. The Marlin was my first and so it is special to me.

I am not opposed to a bolt action. I like them all.

The upcoming will be my first season hunting with a lever, my new (to me) Puma M92 in .454 Casull, I can't wait. It's so much lighter than what I normally use. I have always hunted with either a bolt action or my 12ga pump.

I had a Ruger 96/44 for a while, it was a good gun, should have kept it. Browning BLR's are my favorite center fire rifles. I had a .30-06 BLR till a month ago, sold it to get a .308. I had a Remington pump for a while, it was very accurate but I hated it.

Leverguns good. Others good too though. My goal now is to kill a deer with each one of my centerfire rifles - this is gonna take a few years - try for 2-3 per year - more than that and I can't eat all the meat before the next year. But my Marlin 1895 will be one of the next 3 or 4 in the lineup to take a deer.

I started hunting with a BLR in 450 Marlin. I really love the detachable mag, the overall length and open sites in an snow storm isn't bad either.:D

I defiantely want to be accurate, touching that off a couple times would make a guy not want to miss too often.

I'm only a "paper" hunter but if I had to put meat on the table I strongly suspect my Marlin 336 would be the go-to gun.

I hate em'

Well hate is a strong word but never sought them out.
I only have four. .357( marlin) and 45 long colt (rossi)that I got to do cowboy action. a .35 remington(marlin)because my cousin bragged on his so much and a .44 mag Trapper(Winchester)because it was so short.

I had an action job done to the Rossi and It really smoothed it up.

Here! Nothing seems more "right" than packing a levergun in .22 (squirrels) or .35 Remington (deer) in the woods we hunt. There's just somethin' magical about 'em. I own plenty of capable (maybe even moreso) firearms, but I enjoy taking the levers most.

Here are a couple of pics for you.

My oldest (six years old at the time) with his first deer.

Levers are fun, but I don't discriminate against other action types.:)

Out of all the guns I have hunted with the .30-30 lever Marlin was my favorite. Light, portable, and accurate it takes deer up to 250 yards away. Too bad it's my dad's gun. Darn, guess I need to get one now :D

I'm a big fan of lever action carbines. For many years, professional writers never really gave these great hunting tools much credit. But that has turned around.

Sadly, Winchester's 94 is no longer in production. But Marlin is still building high quality into every rifle. My older Glenfield 30-30 has put a lot of meat on our table over the years. I've toppled several big mule deer bucks with it and never felt undergunned or that I must trade for a bolt action magnum.

Nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
