Lever Action

This past year i ran into an old timer pheasant hunting with a .410 lever action gun,,,,was wondering if they make it in 12 gauge to shoot buckshot for deer?

Question 2 is it a true lever action or is it a single shot and you use the lever for loading?

It was probably a Winchester 9410.

They did not make a 12 gauge version.

However, the Chinese make a copy of the Winchester 1887, which is a lever action 12 gauge. That might be worth a look into.

The only OTHER lever action shotgun I know of was made by Ithaca years ago, I can't remember the model # but it was a single shot. I don't even know if it was made in 410. I had one for a bit, but mine was a 12 guage

Wingshooter.
I beleive the 1887 is manufacured by Norinco. They are readily available at guns stores that cater to Cowboy Action shooters.
You can check on websites. The one here for Black Powder shooters should be helpful. If not, you can go to www.sassnet.com, find their forums, and you will get more information than you can imagine.
I have fired them twice. Can't say I care much for it. They are slow to load and the one I used kicked like a bastard. Your experience could be different.

Ruger,
I believe your thinking of the M66 Super Single. I like mine very much and is surprisingly acurate with slugs. Mine is also a 12 ga.
Wingshooter,
The M66 is NOT a true lever action. You use the lever to open the action.
I hope this helps,
Ken

Both Winchester and Marlin produced a true lever action .410 shotgun.

Marlin produced them in the early part of the 20th century and I hazzard they stopped in the middle of it. They produced it once again after Winchester came out with their 9410 in 2001. Currently both shotguns are no longer produced (a shame) by either company but can still be found new for about $1000.

The first 12 gauge lever action shotgun was designed by John Browning and produced by Winchester in 1887. It shot black powder rounds only and was also available in 10 gauge. In 1901 Winchester came out with a similar design for smokeless rounds in 10 gauge only.

Today, IAC imports Norinco (china) manufactured 1887 replicas in smokeless 12 gauge designed for modern ammunition. Straight from the factory these guns can have any number of ejection and feeding problems. If you wish to avoid these problems, consider a Coyote Cap Special Edition.

Cap is an amazing gunsmith who has put a lot a time and skill into customizing these awesome shotguns. You won't be dissappointed with one of his. While designed primarily for Cowboy Action shooting, the CCSE's come with 3 different chokes to allow for game and sport shooting as well.
