Lever Action Ruger or Winchester ?

I'm in the process of making up my mind on these two lever action rifles and still open to other suggestions.

Model 94 Traditional- CW 44 Rem. Mag

Model 96/44M

Has anybody shot one of these and if so what did you think about it?

I'm leaning toward the model 94 because of mag. cap.

Make it a Winchester!

Have a Winchester Trapper Model 94 and a Winchester Model 92 "short rifle" (aka: "Texas carbine") and wouldn't trade either one for a box full of Ruger lever action rifles. The reports I've read about the Ruger have not been that impressive, particularly the accuracy (or lack of it). Seems that the accuracy of Ruger carbines in general is "average" at the best.

Beyond that, the Ruger lever action is just "butt-ugly". While I own a few Ruger handguns, I don't care for any of their carbines, be they semi-autos or lever action.

The Winchester Model 94 Trails End in .357 Magnum will likely be my next rifle purchase.

If you are not going to consider a Marlin, then get the Winchester.

I own several Ruger's but wouldn't be caught dead with one of their ugly lever actions. They look like the result of a 10/22 getting drunk and going to bed with a Daisy BB Gun.

A quick plug for the Marlin 1894, I have one in .44 mag, it is sweet as hell, points great and hits whatever I aim at. I was also amazed at the tame kick when using full power factory loads.

Did I mention the Ruger Lever action is Ugly?

Good Luck with your choices,

Dave
