Lever action or pump shotguns?

I prefer a pump action. I don't like to take my finger away from the trigger and I find it easier to keep the shotgun more stable against my shoulder with my right hand and operating the fore-end with my weak hand. This allows me to have more accurate, rapid fire.
 
Well said Exar. Very true. Also keep in mind that the military uses pump action not lever action. Nothing against lever action but for defensive purposes in my opinion you cant beat a pump.
 
The lever-action shotgun is more or less a "dead letter" as a design, and has been for almost 100 years.

The pump action proved itself to be a better design, and the lever gun has disappeared except in replicas, and a few new center-fire rifles that are being made in .410.
 
you say as a defense weapon, do you mean something like........oh I don't know......... a riot maybe :rolleyes:

I recently held a lever action shotgun for hte first time in a local gunstore in their cowboy replica section. Fine gun, they are selling like hotcakes compared to some of the other guns.

However, I wasn't aware that lever action shotguns were dead in design. I seem to remember the movie Terminator 2 having Arnold using a lever action shotgun through the whole movie (a modern movie taking place in modern day. A guy walks out of a bar with it and cocks it at Arnold as though they are fairly common guns and Arnold takes it away form him). He even does the Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne)/Lucas McCain (Chuck Conners) trick cocking the gun by slinging the lever loop around.

Reminds me of something a dealer told me about at the above said gun store. Said a guy came in to look at one of those short winchester carbine guns with the big loop. The clown thought he knew what he was doing, slung the lever loop around and the gun went sailing halfway across the store. Their saying in that store: "If it hits the floor it's yours." :D
