Leupold Vari X II 3 x 9 Scope Question

My dad recently purchased a new Leupold 3 x 9 scope. While sighting it in, we noticed that there is no click (neither audible nor felt) when making windage/elevation adjustments. His old Leupold 3 x 9, however, does have an audible click and can be felt with each incremental adjustment. Personally, I have a Vari X III 3.5 x 10 that's about 10 years old that "clicks" as well as a Leupold/Gilmore 1" red dot sight that "clicks" with each adjustment. Did Leupold switch mechanisms or does my dad have a bad scope? Thanks.

Nothin' wrong with your dad's scope. All the Vari-X IIs have "friction" type adjustments. Vari-X IIIs have clicks. -- Kernel

My oldest Vari II 3 x 9 dates back to 1975. No audible clicks on it, just like the matt one I bought last year.

My dad was pretty sure that his old 3x9 had audible "clicks" but it's very possible that he was wrong. Thanks for the info.
