Leupold question???

Hello,

First posting here. I truly hope I will find another proud owner of a Leupold Vari X III 3.5-10 tactical. I have contacted Leupold and received little assistance, The scope is about 10 years old and out of production. I need to know how reset the "zero" for the windage and elevation turrets.

I cannot speak to your particular scope, but in general, the procedure to find the mechanical zero of any scope follows.

Turn the windage and the elevation adjustments all way to their mechanical limits.

DO NOT FORCE!

Now for each of those adjustments, look at the index marks and begin turning them in the OPPOSITE direction and count the turns until you reach the opposite limit.

AGAIN DO NOT FORCE.

Divide the number of turns by 2, and move both adjustments back that number of turns.

You now have, for all practical purposes, reset the scopes mechanical zero for both windage and elevation.

This should be plenty close enough to get you on paper at 25 yards.

Shoot your rifle at 25 yards and check the rough zero and adjust accordingly.

Hope this helps.

If you have target knobs on your scope, there should be an allen screw or flat head screw that can be loosened to facilitate zeroing.

Thanks much for the responses. Geetar I have done what you suggested I do and that worked like a champ! Thank you so much. Airdrop- I am all about the inexpensive right now.

FYI the rifle is a Rem LTR which I purchased barely used for $500.00. It is set in a HS stock (which I had given to me) and now has a properly zeroed Leupold scope. I had it out at the range yesterday and at 100 yds (after zeroing) the largest group was 0.68 inches (from bipod). Not too shabby.

Great! Glad it worked out for you. Now. . . .were you shooting handloads or factory loads?

Make sure you tell the truth. . .we have ways of finding out bad gun dope:D

The truth!!!

I am shooting factory loads. Hornady 168 BTHP, I hoard same lot numbers. LOVE the rounds out of this stick, or should I say the stick loves the rounds...really does not matter, the results speak for themselves.

My best shot group was three rounds out at Knights Industries in Florida. 400 meters from the prone off Harris bi pod two rounds key holed, the third .25 inch out at 10 O'clock. Luck was with me that day. Well out of the norm for that distance. But remeber it is only the first round that counts in my line of work!
