I am about to order some Leupold Dual Dovetail bases and rings from Midway to put on a Remington Model 7 .308. Is it best to get the reversible front base for this rifle? Price is the same for standard or reversible front. Any advice anyone could give would be appreciated. Thanks! Art G.

You are right. Thanks! According to Leupold it is a one piece mount that is packaged with medium rings. Apparently it is the same mount as what goes on a Remington XP-100 handgun. I am going to hold up and consider other options...... Art G.

Decided to order the standard 2 piece bases and low rings that Leupold makes for the Model 7. Have always used Leupold dual dovetail mounts in the past but my guess is the standard Leupolds should be ok. Now I'm trying to decide if I should get the Model 7 in .308 or 7mm 08. Dealer has one of each. Rifle is going to be used for deer hunting here in South Carolina mostly from elevated stands with ranges most often well less than 200 yards. I already have another rifle in .308 so maybe I should consider the 7mm 08...... Art G.

I'd go with the .308. There is really no need to go to the 7mm-08 unless You are partial to the minor advantages of the 7mm bullets moreso than their disadvantages. The two calibers are in essentially the same class. The deer won't know the difference but your pocketbook might as 7mm-08 is more expensive.
