Leupold Boresighter

Has anyone used one of these? I understand that they are magnetic. Are they as accurate as one with spuds? Do they still use a full grid or just cross hairs to sight on? What is the best price you have seen? I'm in the market for a collimater bore sighter under $100 and so far this looks good but I''d like opinions from people who have 'been there done that'. Thanks for the help.

Steve, Midway sells them for $42 delivered if you have an FFL or a C&R FFL. Leupold's idea seem like a step in the right direction, given that they can't harm the crown of a barrel. I'm ordering one tomorrow.

Let us know how it compares to the others when you get it. I don't have an FFL so I would have to pay the $50 retail price.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. It has a full grid with numerical indexes in both dimensions. It has a vertical magnet that contacts the barrel, with no marks or gradiations. Before mounting a new scope, I put it on a rifle that I knew was sighted in for 200 yards. I just kind of eyed it as to line of sight with the scope, and centered it vertically on the barrel. Took a look - vertical crosshair right on, horizontal a couple of marks above the middle. Another sighted in rifle - same story. Mounted the new scope, and took it out to the range last weekend. Unfortunately, the wind was gusting to 35 mph out at the range on Sunday so I left the rifle in it's case, so the real test is still waiting. Will let you know how it works when I get another chance out at the range.

Hope this helps - JohnDog

I will be watching to see how it works. :)

2Shots: If you can get a plastic or nylon spud to harm a steel barrel, maybe boresighting or gunsmithing is not your calling in life. ;) Just kidding, I got your drift.
