Just acquired a 2 year-old Remington Model 700 VS SF in .308Win. I've finally decided on the Leupold VarX-III 4.5-14x50 Long Range Tactical Scope with fine duplex reticle.
Now the real confusion. What Leupold base is optimal? 1-piece base for rigidity and "guaranteed" alignment or 2-piece for aesthetics plus better chamber and magazine access? Are the rear windage screws on the standard rear base necessary, or can I go with the dual dovetails for a cleaner, stronger mount?
