Letters to Howard Dean and Mike Duncan

Hello all,

The 2008 elections are getting close and I recently received a mailing from the NRA about sending notice to the two Chairpersons of the two political parties. This notice would be a reminder that just because we had some democrats win in the past 2006 election, those wins were not based on gun issues. In other words, the democrat-controlled legislature was not the result of America shifting to a more anti-gun position. Instead, the Iraq war seemed to be the basis for some voters switching the party or voting when they hadn't before. Nevertheless, both parties must be aware that they need to support candidates, such as for President, that are on the right side of the gun control issue (remember that the gun issue was a loser for the democrats after they passed the Clinton gun ban on "assault" weapons).

So the NRA is planning to flood the two mailboxes of both Chairpersons, and I thought I would pass this idea on to some of you here at the firingline, who may not be NRA members, but wouldn't mind sending a letter or two to illustrate the point set out above.

Their respective addresses are:

Chairman Howard Dean
Democratic National Committee
430 South Capitol Street, SE
Washington, D.C. 20003

Chairman Mike Duncan
Republican National Committee
310 First Street, SE
Washington, D.C. 20003

I apologize if this email violates any policies on this website, but I just wanted to get the word out since it seems that the front runners (i.e., Giuliani, Romney, Clinton, Obama, etc.) of the 08 election are not seen as particularly strong in re the gun issue.

While it's a good idea to remind both parties of this (and constantly!), to state that the 2008 elections are "getting close" is utter nonsense. The election is still a year and a half away.

What bothers me is that all the media I see has already turned into an Obama vs Clinton race, or Guiliani vs that other guy, but his name doesn't matter to me because I'm not voting for him anyway (it's another "Republican" nominee). Apparently the media thinks it's just around the corner and is already picking favorites. :barf:
