Letter to reps. opinions

I would like opinions on the letter I'm sending to my congressmen. I haven't written many, so I'd like some expert opinion. Please keep in mind I want them to read it, pay attention and respect my request. In short, I want results, not to vent.

I am proud to say that our Oklahoma Congressmen have a better than average
voting history in defending our second Amendment rights. However, I am
asking that you not only continue to support, but take a more aggressive
leadership role in preserving our second Amendment rights. I believe that
current assaults on the second Amendment are merely stepping stones to
totally deprive Americans of their Constitutional right to "Keep and Bear
Arms". If this is allowed to happen, I fear it will lead to further and more
aggressive attacks on other Constitutional rights. I also oppose our
membership in the anti-gun U.N. No foreign or outside governing bodies has
the right to influence or infringe on our Constitutional rights.

History has shown that the licensing and registration of firearms inevitably
leads to confiscation, i.e., Japan, China, Germany, etc., and the
suppression and/or elimination of it's peoples. Do not let the U.S. be
added to that list. Laws for the registration and/or confiscation of
firearms in the name of crime and peace have been costly, ineffective and
most often had the reverse effect, i.e., Australia and Great Britain.
Licensing and registration of guns will do no more to fight crime than a
vehicle license and registration stops highway deaths. Only a very small
percentage of crime is committed with legal weapons. As with vehicles, the
only way to effect change in the "illegal" use of guns is education, tougher
laws and punishment for the criminals, with a swift and certain "no
compromise" prosecution.

I can NOT, in good conscience, and will NOT support any Congressman or
Representative that does not defend my constitutionally guaranteed right to
"Keep and Bear Arms". And, my right to defend home, family, and country from
armed invasion, "against all foes, foreign and domestic". Nor will I support
anyone who does not fight to insure the same rights for future generations.
Myself and many other Oklahomans will actively support the representatives
that protect our rights.

There are several bills currently in Congress, including one written by your
fellow Oklahoman, Tom Coburn. I ask that you co-sponsor and actively support these bills.
They are H.R. 347, H.R. 407, H.R.1032, H.R.1178, H.R.1179, H.R.1577,
H.R.3444, H.R.4257, S.597, and S.954.

I appreciate any constructive comments or criticisms. Might hurt my feelings, but I'll appreciate them. :)

Big Iron,

Good letter but (saw that coming didn't you :) ). First para. just end it after attacking Constitutional rights. Mentioning UN troops paints you as a NWO paraniod (although I do agree with you somewhat).

2nd para. If you are going to mention vehicles bring in the demonization of drunk drivers in the 80's and the subsequent swan dive of drinking and driving. Coming of age in that time frame I can remember the laugh tracks associated with drunken driving in the late 70's sitcoms and then later when MADD got into the act how it was made socially irresponsible (and no I'm not advocating getting drunk and driving, it is just that there was a tremendous social change in a very short time frame then).

As far as them paying attention and respecting your opinion, well don't expect too much, they are politicians after all :) .

Greg
