I am answering a GOP survey/$ request.

Pointers/critiques/grammatical corrections, etc?

Dear Senate Majority Leader,

I read with amusement your “survey” which ended by asking me for hundreds of dollars to defend our republic from the evil democrats.

I assume that you are aware that you are in office today, because of the Democratic attack on my gun rights. I and millions of other American gun owners mobilized ourselves and returned the Congress and the White House to a republican majority, over a single issue.

That issue was , and remains, gun control.

During your term in office, you have accomplished little to thank me for your term in office. Of course, you didn’t “re=new “ the 1992 crime bill, but that would have gotten the lot of you fired.

You did protect the firearms industry from frivolous lawsuits, but let’s be honest, that was a little self serving as well. It is hard to arm a military when the manufacturers have been sued out of business.

So what have you done for American sportsmen?

Let me make a few suggestions that will both raise more money for the federal largess, and make us happy to boot.

1. Remove the “sporting clause” from the 1968 Gun Control Act. This will both raise funds for the government via import taxes, and be a good faith measure that the republican party is really on my side.

2..Repeal Section 922 (o) Title 18 US Code. This will reap the government millions of dollars in voluntary taxes.

3. Allow the National Firearms Act a two year amnesty period, which will net the government millions more in voluntary taxes.

Even one of the above mentioned items would influence thousands of gun owners to support your party further, But as your record to date has proven, you are indeed my fair-weather friend.

Should you change your mind and decide to do something with the chance we have offered you, feel free to contact me again and I will reconsider a donation toward your re-election.

Respectfully,

I would remove the word "sportsmen" from your letter.

I am a gun owner and do not hunt whatsoever. I am tired of being lumped into the crowd that takes their rifles out of their vault twice a year to get drunk in the woods. -that's not all hunters but you understand what I'm saying I think.

In South Korea they are only allowed to have air rifles and only for hunting and they have to be kept in a police vault the rest of the year.

That is where we are headed if we keep talking about ourselves as "sportsmen".

We are free human beings, with an intrinsic right to defend ourselves and our family and conduct our business as we well please as long as it harms no others.

We need stop talking about "gun rights" or "sportmens rights" and start talking about "self-defense rights" and "freedom vs. slavery".

The mainstream media and politicos are masters at changing the language to achieve their aims- we must do the same.

I understand where you are coming from.

But I disagree...to wit, is a deer hunter any more of a sportsman than is a 1000 yard .50 cal competition shooter, or a ISPCA shooter, or a weekend AK plinker?

I believe that using the euphemistic sounding "sportsmen" to describe us is a much more delicate approach to the same end than "die hard patriots"

Similarly, aside from target choice, exactly what is the difference between a sharpshooter and a sniper? To you and I, nothing.

Tell a politician that you want him to apear at a 1000 yard sharpshooting event in his district, and invite him to a 1000 meter sniper competition and see at which he shows up to first.

I hate to sound PC... but who are we addressing here?

I'm not saying that anyone who uses guns in a variety of manners is any better than any other person.

I would just say "Americans" rather than enforcing the stereotype that the only valid reason for gun ownership is sports.

The gun-grabbers are hardcore and are not looking for anything less than total removal of all guns from society. We need not tread lightly when confronting such people. The want you to be helpless.

When it comes to fighting them politically they are using the "sport" argument to push ideas like guns only being allowed during sporting events.
