I have been here for a short time but have never read anything on an obvious subject. As a matter of fact it is conspicuous by its absence. How about we discuss something I think about sometimes, such as; Does anyone think that if we pack heat, we could possibly have to/want to shoot someone? I have heard the saying that "The trigger pulls the finger" and I really see that for some people that's actually true. I have seen that if a guy is out with his unarmed friends, they will more often than not make SURE that he has to shoot someone. I have a cousin who upon learning that I was packing, taunted and pushed and asked for me to shoot him! I had to literally beat his ass, right in the middle of a grocery parking lot just to save his fool life...... There are always hustlers and outright predators watching as we go about our business in public. With all the opportunities that surround us to cap off on someone, what are your mental processes while in public? What are your limits, and how exactly do you know what your limits are? Can you actually shoot someone? how do you know? Will you intervene on another persons behalf? You prepare yourself extensively by being armed and shooting well, do you prepare for the event that you might actually shoot? Mentally? Maybe a lawyer on retainer or bail money in the drawer? At this point it would be great for officers to chime in with their views and experiences on civilian shootings. I have carried since I was a teenager. I have talked and bluffed my way out of many tight scrapes. I have even "brandished" on occasion. I don't go for a gun right away, and I try to anticipate conditions and behave accordingly, but it IS possible that where a gun is present a person COULD get shot...... Just something I think about.
