The pattern repeats itself it seems, however, based on what I've seen and what I've read, both presidential candidates support tighter gun control.

I'm not real saavy with knowing how this works right now, and please forgive my ignorance since I usually stay away from the politics due to the headaches it causes, but in the event that they do pass a law that forbids the purchasing of certain firearms, how does this affect those of us who aleady own such items? Would said items be grandfathered out of the new law?

I've heard talks on how both candidates support a new AWB (Not sure, could be wrong), is this AWB the same as the one Clinton passed back in '86, or does it have provisions for stricter regulations?

The situation as it is has me concerned, but I'm wondering if I'm just being paranoid or are my concerns well founded. The push for stricter gun control will always be prevelant, but in light of the Colorado tradgedy, it seems to be a topic that is being talked about with a little greater fervor nowadays (Whether it's gained any traction I'm not entirely sure)

Thank you for bearing with me, politics is not my strongest area.

That would depend on how the new law is written. As a general rule, I would expect that items already owned would be grandfathered in. However, that's not an absolute, concrete given. We'd have to wait and see the bill.

AWB -- This is shorthand for an Assault Weapons Ban. Whether the candidates or gun control groups are referring to the 1994-2004 AWB or enact a new, stricter one, I have no clue.
