'Was called to "unscheduled" RSO duties today, and so took the
Sharps 45-70 to do final dial-in for Steel Pigs-in-Space.
It's loaded w/ a heavy Paul Jones 540gr Creedmores (1:30) over
64gr Swiss 1½ (w/60-thou card wad) so it's only drundling along
at a leisurely 1,200fps at the muzzle and a little over 1,100 when
it reaches the 100-yd pig. As RSO I only fired four rounds over
a 3-hour period, so it was as much a test of a blow-tube at 1-hr
intervals a it was finally finding the sight elevation.
When I took the pig down I found these 50₵ peices embedded
hard in the frame 2x4s.
You don't want to be anywhere near that pig when those bullets
change from from smooth-sided cylinders... to spinning circular
razor blades....
