Less Muzzle Flip/Recoil: Glock 17 or Full-Size HK USP 9?

The USP has HK's patented recoil spring, which IMO, tends to make it a softer shooter. However, the bore on the USP is higher in relation to the grip which tends to make muzzle flip more pronounced. I haven't ever shot them side by side to see of it makes any practical difference.

Having shot both at different times, I'd say there was no remarkable difference in recoil or muzzle flip; but that the stock USP trigger was much better (assuming you can reach it given the size of the USP grip).

G17 has a pretty mild recoil because the barrel in closest to being aligned with the web of the hand. Lower 'bore axis' means less flip.

My once-every-blue-moon wife shoots the `17 quite comfortably and QUITE well.

Now if a GIRL can shoot it......
 ;) :D

The G17 has less recoil and more controllable. The trigger is better in the Glock. You can also Modify the trigger so it's superior.

Not the full-size models, but when I had both the USP Compact 9 and Glock 19, I noticed a little less muzzle flip on the Glock, but not enough to detract from enjoying the HK. *Pic shows my old USP Compact 40, had the 9 as well. [emoji6]

How a shooter perceives recoil will vary quite a bit between shooters and factors like how a pistol fits a user's grip/hands, skills, technique (especially grip), and strength make a lot of difference too. I have had different shooters try a specific gun and one will say it kicks like a mule and other will say it's a soft shooter.

I have shot Glock 17 and USP 9MM and to me they were pretty soft shooting guns and can't really remember one being much different than the other. Best bet is for the shooter to try both during the same range session and then deciding for himself or herself which they like best.
