LEO's Football Stadium Snipers

Since 9-11, any LEOs claiming to be "protecting the people" can do just about anything they want. Still LE carries out those drills all the time and since local LE rarely has a large training area (like an Army base) they often do some training in and around the area they could end up working in if the S does HTF. I doubt live ammo was used.

Just what I would want as a sniper...a "hide" where I'm standing erect in a wide open space with chain link for cover whilst locking my rifle into a rest mounted to a guard rail.

That is stealth right there, I don't care who you are :o

Are they using live ammo in this? I can't tell. How do they do this? the city lets them? I never heard or seen such a thing.

According to the link under the video, sure enough, they do live fire exercises at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park in Dallas. http://www.tactical-life.com/exclusives/stadium-snipers/

Given the expanse of area around the Cotton Bowl, the Cotton Bowl would be a fairly decent training facility for this sort of activity.

With that said, the whole helicopter aspect of the video was nothing but pure cheese.

The particular drill in question isn't about firing from a position of stealth, but learning to shoot in a stadium environment, down angles, etc. Check the middle of the page and see where they are working numerous shooters as a class. It is a location of teaching convenience for the issues at hand, not teaching stealth tactics. Every stadium will be different in regard to where snipers may set up, sometimes not even being in the stadium itself, but in a nearby building overlooking the stadium.

However, snipers protecting athletic and other venues frequently are no so much in positions of stealth as they are in positions of elevation. For example, you have super bowl snipers on landings...

There was an incident @ UM's Big House this fall...

an additional HG member reported for duty @ opening ceremonies and was carrying two shoulder arms.
The gentleman was surround on the field and one LEO each controlled the muzzle, and escorted off the field.

Another friend was a reserve officer from Kent Co. Sheriff department, Michigan and they regularly
practiced on week-end in various public buildings.

Be glad they practice and not go in COLD.

This training doesnt look too effective. Throughout the entire training exercise they move somewhat slowly. Getting out of the helicopter is a leisurely exercise. There is no resistance encountered moving into the stadium. The trainers dont provide any stress. Im guessing they want to avoid bullying the officers. There is no realism in this exercise.

^^^ Unless as another member stated they are just learning the basics/fundamentals of shooting at a downward angle.

That helicopter costs hundreds of dollars per hour to fly around. If they were just learning the basics they should have arrived by POV. The chopper isnt those guys personal bird. If I was the instructor they would have had war stories to tell after its over. This kind of leisurely training doesnt do anyone justice especially when the tax payers have to foot the bill.
