Leno on Preachers with Guns

Last night on the Tonite Show on NBC, Jay Leno made one of his monologue subjects the recent enactment of the Kentucky law that permits clergymen to carry under their robes (presumeably in church.) He pointed out that '...if you have to shoot at your congregation, you aren't reaching them the way you should.' (paraphrase.)

This illustrates a particularly pernicious anti-gun technique: the 'It's only a Joke'; a remark that ridicules a good law (which is clearly designed to protect ministers and their flock from a demonstrable danger,) by stereotyping of a) Clergy b) Gun-owners, and c) CCW.

I don't know if Leno is on the 'HCI Sympathiser's' list...there are so many Hollywoodenheads that are, I can't keep up...but I do know he likes to ride motorcycles...and I'll bet he'd scream if some a**hole comic made jokes about how bikers wear leather because they are closet fetishists...

It's a joke and it's funny. I know we have taken a lot of heat from everywhere recently. That makes it difficult to take anything lightly, but it's funny because he kinda has a point.

Joy, praise, love, God, and a .44 Magnum. One of these things just doesn't belong. Come on, can ya tell me which one?

In reality the joke is an insult to priests, pastors, rabbis, etc. Their public image is of a man who stands by and prays for the souls of the men who kill, mame, and rape their congregation instead of taking action.

Jay Leno has been a Clinton suckup from the beginning. He was at a recent $25,000 a plate fundraiser for Gore. Even when he makes jokes about Clinton, they have a "way to go, guy!"
tone to them.

A joke is only funny when it has an element of seriousness behind it. At one time I was a big fan of Woody Allen. In one of his movies, a TV anchor says, "today the NRA declared death to be a good thing." There were other gun-bashing jokes from different comics over the years, but at some point I stopped laughing. These people have enormous impact on the American public, whether they're comics or actors.

I have pastored a church and know I am a NRA member and have CCW permit and carry CCW.

I didn't hear Leno's joke, does not really matter to me; Chrisitians and gunowners have been the joke for years, why not hit 2 birds with one stone.

I applaud Kentucky's decision, I see no contradiction with Clergy and Guns. It is the Clergy's responsibility to "shepherd" the sheep. That includes their protection while in Church when they can not legally carry a weapon. Faith in God is one thing, but boy be sure not to miss the 2 boats and the helicopter or you will drown for sure.

The great misconception of God(the Creator, YAHWEH, Jesus) is that of concept of "I love you so much, I will be your doormat". The error is in forgetting that God's love is equally matched and balanced by His Judgement. To view Jesus without the balance of love and judgement is to view a false god. my $.02; I guess the preacher-man is rearing up inside of me

I know of a Priest, now deceased, that was a shooter. He carried a S&W 4" .44 MAgnum under his robes. His church was ina BAD section of town where church members had been robbed and beaten in the parking lot on the way to mass. One Sunday two goblins entered the church and tried to stick up the congreation. Exit two no longer with us stick up men. I don't have the news report any more, it was a buncha years back but I saw the police report and talked to the responding officers. Different department than the one I worked for.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong but....
Hasn't it always been legal to carry in your home or place of employment? (At least in MN)
So, when was it illegal for a pastor/minister/priest to carry in church?
And, when did the gov't get authority over what goes on in church?

You'll just have to take that matter up with the clergyman's employer...and I believe He has said much on the matter.
