Lenny Magill videos?

I received a catalog of videos a while back called Gun Videos. I seems that 90% of the of the products in the catalog star the guy that owns the company. Now I'm pretty well versed in who's who in the gun world but I have never heard of this guy. Anybody out there familiar with him or his videos? How about his background? My first impression was he seems like an a**hole but I could be wrong.

I have one of his videos and he has the guy showing a 5 shot revolver and tells the "student' to lonly load 4 because you keep the chamber empty in case you drop the gun so it won't go off. I tossed the video into the trash. That hasn't been able to happen to a modern gun for ages, especially a double action revolver like a S&W.
Before I hit the eject button he told the "student" that most gun ranges wouldn't let you shoot hollowpoints on the range because they were so dangerous etc.
Then when it came to the instruction on shooting he gets some stacked chesty babe to use as an "average" student. Save your bucks.

He is a pretty boy with a production company. I guess you can tell how much he knows by the quality of his suggestions. That 'stacked chest babe' is his wife and she is HOT! They both strike me as California 'beatiful people' with more looks than brains, but that is just opinion. I have met them, but I do not know them well enough to comment on their character.

I only have a few gun videos, and I have a couple from him that I didn't know he did until I played them. Very poor. I'd like to be able to say I would've like them when I was about six, but I think I would've found them lame even then. Just a guy with a DJ's voice who has a camera and little knowledge.
The Competiton Reloading video comes to mind. Brian Enos gives some good info, but you are so annoyed by Lenny that you don't care. I think the videos would be a lot better if they were just films of shooting competitions, machinegun shoots, or shots of profesionals training- all without narration, or at least without his comments.
I see them on gun show tables all the time used for like $4. I notice now that some places that sell his videos don't always announce the fact that he did them, if that tells you anything.
You're better off with something like Dillon's Rob Leatham video. A lot of the info is ancient, but at least it was pretty good once.

I have seen a number of Gun Video's productions. Their quality varies widely depending on who Magill has recruited to star in them. Some are poor but others are oustanding. Two extremely good videos star Bob Wilson and Ken Hackathorn. One"House Clearing and Cornering" covers what to do if you must search a house for intruders and the other "Night Masters" covers using handguns in the dark. I highly recommend both of them . The information they contain could save your life.

I own a few of his videos (Concealed Carry & Advanced Concealed Carry), and they are ok.

I also have a few videos done by his production company, but where Lenny did not play a large part in the video itself, like the Low Light video shooting by Wilson & Hackathorn. It's basically a video of the course they teach, with a few comments thrown in by Lenny.

In general, the videos range from useful (the Hackathorn/Wilson video series) to silly ("Underwater Shooting").

?? for theprisoner...are you an idiot?...I didn't think so. I was. I purchased a few of his videos (all at the same time) and they are generally not worth the price. Although I have not seen the two mentioned that were thought to be useful. I would agree that He is one of the "beautiful people" and little full of himself.

If you didn't know anything...you might learn something from them. but I think your money is better spent reading quality material on whatever subject matter you are interested in.

I didn't really consider buying any of the videos, I was just wondering what they were like. I guess from what you all said my first impressions were right. I did have my eye on the Gunsite series that covers everything from handguns to shotguns and rifles. Any good?

OK, OK, I confess, I bought Lenny Magill's "The Truth About Point Shooting" video. It wasn't total trash, but it certainly wasn't the definitive work on the subject, either.

Yeah, one of the shooters in the video was an attractive woman. I didn't mind. :D

theprisoner - The Gunsite training videos are, IMHO, worth the money and they were not done by Magill's Productions. They are a product of Gunsite; at least the Tactical Pistol tape I have only has their name and logo on it. BTW, if you don't care for Lenny, get the Gunsite tapes from Dillon.

If you're not a little upset with the way the world is going, you're not paying attention.

Well, he did make one decent video if you are into the 1911 style pistol. The video is "How to Shoot Fast and Accurately". Great footage of Enos, Leatham, Plaxco, and others. If you just want to see footage of presentation, form, grip, etc., and ignore Lenny, it is pretty good.

He did a video showing you how to "clear" a house. Did he toss in a business card or two for the lawyer you will need to get your sorry butt out of jail for pulling that STUNT? Being a good TARGET shooter isn't much of qualification for such things. The house clearing video should be about 10 seconds long. I have the script.
