length acuracy?

Hello again,
This may be an obvious question but Id like to know if anyone has practical experience. When shooting rifled slugs from a smooth bore does the length of the barrel have that much effect? I know with pistols, barrel legnth effects sighting more than anything. As I said it seems obvious that a 28" barrel would be more acurate than an 18", but under 100yds will it have that much of a difference? Id rather ask you guys than waste $20-$30 in shells to find out. Thanks yet again guys, I really enjoy TFL!
Ken

PS what does IIRC mean? Ive seen it on a few posts.

NO. Rifled slugs are actually smaller than the bore diamater. They get flung out of the barrel like a drunk from a stip club. The slug is heavy in the front and have a hollow base like a badminton birdie. The rifling on the slug is like fins on a rocket and causes the slug to spin once it leaves the barrel so barrel length isn't a factor. Sounds crude but works.

Thanks RR,
Here on Long Island the only firearms deer hunting is a shotgun season for 3 weeks in January. I take it from what you said carrying a short "brush gun" style shotgun isnt a bad idea. In the past Ive carried a long, scoped, semi-auto that was sometimes difficult in the brush. Ive missed several shots because Ive jumped deer and couldnt get the scope on target. I always thought a short barrel was an unwise choice. Thanks again,
Ken

No real advantage to the longer barrels except sight radius. Use what you want to.

IIRC= If I Recall Correctly.....
