Legal to ship dissasembled handgun in two shipments?

Anyone know if it is legal to ship a frame and cylinder or slide separately across state lines between non FFL individuals? Any difference between USPS and UPS or FedEx? Seems like if it was, everyone would send two Priority Mail packages instead of going through an FFL.

Anyone that tells you it's legal to ship the receiver/frame as a non firearm is either has there head where the sun don't shine or they are not your friend.

I think any box that actually contains a receiver would be considered a violation.

Exactly!

No matter who is the recipient, if it's US Mail, you've just violated federal law as only FFL's can "mail" a handgun.

If it's common carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.) it's not quite as bad. You've only violated their policy by not shipping a handgun Next Day Air. You've also violated federal law by not notifying the shipper the package contains a firearm.

Shipping to an individual is permissible if the recipient is the owner. In other words, if you're going on a hunting trip within the US, you can ship your guns to your destination if they are addressed to yourself. You can also ship direct to an individual within your own state. Otherwise, it's against the law.
