An article in the Philadelphia Daily News (Fox News redux) today about an IT worker who was legally open carrying his firearm in accordance with his license and a Police Department Directive illustrates why open carry, though legal, can cause problems for the license holder.
Although the actions of the Philly PD officers in question are probably well outside the bounds of Philly PD authorized behavior, the story could be interpreted as a good case for concealed, rather than open carry.
I'm sorry for the problems this poor guy is going through and I hope all ends well for him. I think I would have been more compliant from the beginning and things might not have escalated to the extent that they did.
The license holder recorded almost the entire incident and posted it on You-Tube. He was subsequently re-arrested for failure to follow directions.
