Yep, what Shin-Tao said. And note, the BATF is completely inconsistent on this issue.
A thumbhole stock is not a pistol grip on certain imports according to the BATF but is a pistol grip on an AR-15.
Why do you care? These laws are completely unconstitutional, not that I'm suggesting you do anything to run afoul of the BATF.

Paladin, the law says a pistol grip must protrude "conspicuously" from the receiver.
What's conspicous? It's a judgemental decision, just like "art." But here, opinions can mean legal dollars. Maybe you'll cross paths with a BATF agent who saw "Schindler's List" and was impressed with the part where Schindler realized the power of saying "I pardon you."
My gut's been burning for six years over that stupid, vague, senseless, arbitrary, worthless, ill-defined and ill-written law promulgated by stupid, vague, senseless, arbitrary, worthless, poorly-educated legislators.
