Left handers get screwed (again)

I was looking through Remington's 2007 catalog. They no longer offer a left handed 1187. Now, I know it's probably to cut manufacturing costs, and that the CTI 105 is supposed to be ambidextorous, but, its $600 more, AND the safety is still set up for a right hander!

(Plus, I was aggravated when I went to the "Left Handed Guns" area of Remington's site, and the picture is a lefted handed guy shooting a RIGHT HANDED rifle!)

sorry, just had to rant.

Leftys get left out alot.

I have had people offer me good money for my Ithaca 37 Deerslayer Police Special. Aside from the safety, it doesn't care what side you shoot from. Plus it is a pre-73 model (No disconnector) so I can have some fun at the range.:D

My Pal Chad is a lefty...

And he is one Hell of a good shot with Shotguns (he bought my old 870) Handguns (Shoots a .40 cal WAY better than I do) and is an ACE with an AR15. All his guns are "righties". :)

But yeah, I hear you. It is unfair that you lefties are "left out" (No pun intended) allot of the time. Hey, at least STAG Arms has taken a step in the right direction with their LH AR15's!

LOL:) Wow, I guess that pretty much says it all right there.

There are starting to be a few more offerings from most of the major manufacturers...heck browning has a lefty BAR short-trac now.

Savage has the right idea. Make lefty guns easily available for people who want them. Sure the percentage of left handed people are not that great compared to right handed people but it does give you an advantage when you offer something that nobody else does. Alot of left handed people I have helped are looking at buying a Savage just because they can get exactly what they want. Too bad Savage does not make shotguns.

Skeeter - My current "tool set" includes a LH Remington 1187, a LH 1100 slug gun, a RH 870, which I also love to shoot, an SKB 500 O/U, a Beretta White Onyx Sporting Clays, and a spanish 28 gauge SxS. I like all types, and especially like the Onyx.

I just don't like the idea of future lefty's not having the opportunity to get a LH 1187.

I'm a lefty and I also play guitar. Trying to find a left handed guitar really sucks but I digress. There aren't a whole lot of options for a left handed shooter, but Savage is a great choice and I find any pump action shotgun is practically ambidextrious.

Remington is known for screwing people, so this doenst suprise me. They make a decent quality firearm, but when remington stops building a particular gun, they also stop making parts for it too. If its not very a very popular rifle, you can expect the availablilty of ammo to dry up shortly after.

Thats the reason neither me or my father will own or shoot a remington. He got burned with the 5mm rem. mag, and swore he'd never do it again.

If you've got a lefty remington, take care of it. If something breaks, you might have to have the parts custom made.

This is one digression that I can't help but continue (being a guitar player myself). Jimi Hendrix did OK by putting the strings on in the opposite order, and he did pretty well. Errr, right up until he OD'd and croaked.

OK, back on topic. Southpaws really do get the short end of the stick with most firearms. Double-barrel shotguns and single-shot rifles are ambidexterous. Pretty much everything else is disigned for the right-hand world. Considering that ~10% of the population is left-handed, you'd think there would be more of a market for them out there.

South Paw

Welcome to the club, been left handed from the beginning.......I suppose that the only firearm that bothered me was the old M1, got used to the rest of them, can shoot r/h or l/h now. The 1928 Thompson SMG would be dandy with the Operating handle up on top. Problem being that they are too expensive and the gun gestapo forbids building new civilian ones. I have no trouble with the AR15, firing with either hand.

Half Screwed?

I'm a southpaw shooter who for some reason plays guitar right handed. So I guess I'm either half cursed, or blessed; which ever. When I bought my wingmaster near 20 yrs ago, I had a williams big button lefty safety put on first thing. Later discovered the joy of carrying an Ithaca 37. (well; 3 of them so far). Fortunately Ebay has been a good source of left hand safeties for the 37s. Been pricing the forthcoming 16 ga Browning BPS. Top tang safety, & only one port in the reciever, just like god intended. Just don't get me started on foriegn manufacturers bending all their butstocks to suit the (other 90 percent) of shooters.
