Left handed .25-06 questions.

I want a .25-06 to deer hunt with, but I have a dillema on my hands. I shoot left handed. The only new LH .25-06 I can find is a Tikka. The problem is that it has a 22" barrel and I really want a 26" barrel. The rifle I really want is a Rem. 700 Sendero, but it's not available in LH. So here are my questions:

1. How accurate is the Sendero? Is it considerably better than the 700 BDL?

2. Would I be better off buying a RH Sendero (I can shoot a RH rifle, I'm just used to LHed ones.), or having a LH custom built out of a 700 BDL LH?

3. Probably the least expensive custom route would be to buy a LH .270 or .30-06 and have the barrel changed to a 24" 700 BDL .25-06 barrel and then buy an aftermarket sythetic stock. How much of a velocity difference is there between a 24" and a 26" barrel in .25-06?

4. Any other good options for under $1000?

Thanks for the help!

You are right that the option you list as 3 would be the cheapest and easiest. You might even try calling Remington and asking them about making a special order in .25-'06.

As a WAG, between 100-150 fps difference for two inches of barrel length.

InGobwetrust,

Had one, never could get it to shoot less than 2.5" @ 100 yds. I tried every brand of factory ammo and worked up over 40 different handloads for it. As much as I liked it (I really like the looks of the stainless with the laminate stock that they have now.), I just wasn't happy with the accuracy. :(

Why not start with the Tikka, and then after this year, get a longer barrel?

A buddy of mine just sighted in his new Tikka southpaw .243, and easily got 1/2"-3/4" groups.

I hunted with a 22" .270 for a few years, and Bambi never knew it wasn't a longer barrel. He just kept falling over dead. I grant that I have more confidence in my 26" '06, out here in Big Country's longer ranges.

(Of course, all set up for Way Out There, my last mule deer was at 30 yards. Harumph.)

I'm a lefty, and own a Savage 111FL in 25.06 caliber...it's a tack drivin' unit.
I paid about $300-350 for the gun, then spent a bit more and got a nice scope on it.
GREAT gun. My son has a model 110 in .243.
I may get a trigger jog some day but for now...I can consistantly place 5 rounds inside a fifty cent piece at 100 yards...good enough for me.
Take a look!
