If it is in good condition - tight lock up, bright barrels, lever still a bit to the right - then that is a very good price. It may not be a good idea to shoot much (or any) high intensity modern ammo in it as it was not designed for that. There is plenty of modern loaded low pressure ammo available.
And.....don't cut the barrels. Why would you want to do that to a classic shotgun?
Want a sawed off? Buy a cheap Chinese made gun and cut away but, please, not to a LeFever.

Don't saw the barrels, PLEASE.....

The Nitro Special LeFever was made by Ithaca as a utility grade shotgun for those not wanting to spend more money on a NID, their premier offering.

Despite a lack of ornamentation and with plain wood, these look very good when photographed on a stump with a brace of game birds.

It's a serviceable shotgun capable of making meat and fun for more generations.

Buy a coach gun for what you want this for. They're neither scarce nor expensive.
