Lee Turrets

I recently purchased a 4 hole insert. got home and found it does NOT fit in my three hole older model. I did not know there was any difference till then.
... a four hole conversion is available for the older presses. bob

The indexing rod determines the degree of rotation, aligning the dies and shell holder. Easiest to just remove the rod and index manually, in lieu of having the right press or using an extra stroke past an empty station.

Real Gun, there is a physical difference between the lugs on the 3 hole and 4 hole turret heads. They will not interchange with one another.

Yes, I know. My 3-hole was converted to 4-hole, and then I discovered the cast version that came as 4-hole. I was just saying that manual indexing may be the preferred way to skip an unused station in the 4-hole.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post Real Gun.

My impression is that the Lee Turret presses are great for anyone only loading pistol cartridges in smaller quantities, few hundred at a time. To my mind this is where they shine. Even the Classic Cast Turret when used for small batch loading of rifle does well when used this way.

Real Gun,

I usually manually index my four hole but, the other day, I decided to install the index rod. With only two dies in the turret, I practically create blisters in my palm. I'm going back to manual indexing.

I use my Lee Value turret to load both .223 and 7.62x39 and both shoot MOA to 1.5 MOA consistently with no problem in my AR platforms. I do all brass prep and priming off the press though. I just drop powder, seat bullet, and crimp in the turret. Now if only I could actually shoot well enough myself to utilize it. :) oh well, a work in progress. Old eyes really suck.

I have the classic cast turret 4 hole.

Normally most of my reloading is done with 3 dies, so I end up pumping the handle 4 times per loaded round.

I've been doing most all my loading on a Lee Pro 1000 but recently picked up an old 3 hole Value Turret to try and compliment the Pro while doing load work-ups. The idea was to be able to swap turrets back and forth between the 2 presses but that doesn't seem to be working. Seems the ram stroke is not the same between the 2 presses. The turret press comes up short with 9mm compared to the die settings for the Pro1000.

The turret will rotate with a short stroke, so it's not as tedious as it may sound.

Yes, good point, Real Gun, that's exactly what I do.

I only raise the ram high enough to make sure that the collar goes over the index spot on the op rod, which makes sure that the turret fully indexes to the next hole.
