Lee Pro 1000 press question.

I have two Lee Pro 1000 presses. One in 45 acp the other in 9mm, and an
earlier shell plate carrier assembly. I set up the older assembly with a .380
shell plate and installed it on one of my presses. After assembly I found that
the shell pusher would not completely push the case onto the shell plate. It
would always be short by 1/2 inch. So I had to push the case onto the plate by hand.
I even bought a new small shell case feeder replacement system with a
straight z bar. I even used the bent z bar, and it fails to work. My 45 and 9mm systems have worked perfectly over the years. Am I failing to see something? I called Lee for help, but so far no help. From the wording in the email I received, it sounds like they are out sourced. Can anyone help?
Thanks, from the new guy. RWD

1/2" is a LONG way short, so your problems would seem to be some major damage or setup issue with your press. Since you have two presses to compare, do they BOTH have the same problem?

I seem to recall that the case slider has two different holes in it, but only one is correct for the z-bar (sorry - I'm too lazy to walk out to my shop right now and look at mine to be more specific). Try to check out all the pictures on Lee's web site to see if one clearly shows the shell feeder setup.

Also note that ALL of their support info and tech answers are on a totally different site: http://www.leeprecision.net/support/ (note the .net instead of .com), so you might want to go there and do some searching.

Update: I did just take a look at the current Pro 1000 instructions on Lee's web site. They do not have a decent picture of the case slider setup, but the one I did see did not look like mine - seems to have the z-bar stuck in a tit hanging off the back of the slider? But the instructions did have a couple of suggestions for problem fixing, and one of them specifically says that maybe the z-bar is in the wrong hole - you need to "Use hole closest to screw."

That would be my guess also, the only other thing I can think of is the 5/8"x 1 1/4"(I'm guessing) plate on top of the hex post is out of position. The Z-bar hooks to it and it when you put it back together you got it out of position or it isn't in the hole right it will throw the shuttle way off.

Remove the case feeder. Feed cases into the first stage by hand.

(Seriously. That's what I did. It seemed likely to me that the whole case feeding thing would be more trouble that it was going to be worth, so I took it off.)

This must have been a drive by post trying to start trouble concerning Lee presses.

With out a reply from the OP after this time, I'm not wasting anymore time trying to help him.

Lee Pro 1000 .380 problem

Thanks for the info. As posted earlier, I did purchase a new small case
feeding system ( straight z bar, pusher with only one hole, 4 new tubes with
press connector.) I did call Lee, I was told they had recently noticed that they
had a bad batch of shell plates? Its now called a 4s, and they will send me a
new one. Frankly I don't think this is my answer, but I'll give it a try. I even tried an older small pusher with two holes. No luck. I guess I'll take the previous advice and bag the self feeder and do it by hand. Thanks for all your
reply's. A new West Coast guy.
