Lee Hand Press

I'm using Lee press at home. I'm considering buying a hand press and taking bullet seater and calipers to the range with charged and primed brass. Want to try some different coal at the range. Anyone got ideas of how to keep powder safely and without leaking to the range. I've got load boxes for them but am curious to find a way to transport. Guy last week was trying same thing and had electric tape over his and grains of powder were sticking to the tape.

I have read of small pill bottles being used to transport premeasured powder charges. I also have seen shooters/reloaders take their powder measure to the range and charge the cases there, in a sheltered, wind free spot of course...:D

I think it would depend on what you have at the range. You could load in a motor home or camper away from all the shooting. A barn or other building that would keep your equipment secure. I suppose you could load under a tree on a table.

Take what you need but no need to play around with the powder bottles. Leave the powder in the bottles it comes in.

You can take a pickup and use the tailgate to load on. Just add a plank to it and secure it for your press... Put a couple wood boxes together for all the equipment... Use your imagination.

This would be a good time to have guys send in a picture of their range loading area.

Just take your scale to the range (pick up a used one just for that use if you don't want to bring your regular scale).

That would all be nice. However our closest range to experiment with load is in a WMA controlled by a range master from the DNR. No open powder. No scales. He will allow to go to the farthest bench under the shooting deck and seat bullets if they are primed and sealed. Need some of that foam stuff inside my inertia bullet puller. It doesn't let powder stick to it. Not sure what it's made out of.

Competition Range is 3 hours away but most shooters there have their gear with them. Everyone is making tables with loaders bolted on that go into their hitch receivers.

These vials will hold about 55 grain of powder for about $30.00 on Amazon.

I have a friend who uses this exact device for pre-measured powder. The great thing is that you can write on the glass vial with a sharpie (volume, brand etc.), and when you get home, just wipe the ink off the empties with a little acetone. Works like a champ and is simple and tidy.

If you only need a dozen or so, your local medical supply house should have something similar. But that Amazon price is hard to beat.

Willy I think you just solved my problem. I'll just seat right at boat tail and load in a 7 mag box. Then I can seat to depth I want. Now that's why I like this forum.

Many years ago R. lee went to the range with a friend, they were testing loads for a powder company. (THEY) He had help, they went to the range with dippers, or they shot ammo that was loaded with dippers and a business card. After returning to the shop they measured the powder in grains because their customer requested load information in grains.

The business card was used to level the powder above the top of the dipper. Then R. Lee went on to elaborate on the scientific design of the dipper. A dipper leveled with a business card was the starting load and it was impossible to overcharge a case with a dipper, the cone of powder above the dipper would not support enough powder to overcharge the case.

I have Lee dippers, black, red and yellow.
