Lee Enfield Question - Safety Operation

I just picked up a Lee Enfield No. 4. Mk 1. Everything appears to be in order but it needs a good cleaning and a headspace check. Just this morning I was fooling around and closed the bolt on an ampty magazine. I then pulled back the striker to feel the trigger pull and the trigger won't budge. I'm assuming the safety is the lever on the rear left of the receiver, and it is pushed forward. I'm also assuming that "safety off" is to the rear, but the lever is very reluctant to move. Should I just give it a good pull, or does something sound wrong?

Thanks,

Noban

It sounds like you have the rifle at half cock. pull the striker all the way back to see. The safety can only be engaged with the striker fully cocked or fully relaxed. Half cock is "safe" as well.

Also, the safety forward is the FIRE position. The safety lever pointed back is the SAFE position.
